On June 6, 1944, the Western Allies invaded a part of northern France called Normandy. The Allied forces' goal was to push the Germans under Adolf Hitler out of France. The allied forces led by U.S. Army General Dwight D. Eisenhower in Operation Overlord, code-name "Neptune".
